Russia, Ukraine accuse each other of breaking ceasefire
Russian and Ukrainian forces accused each other on Saturday of breaking the agreed ceasefire that should have allowed refugees to escape the cities in the southeastern part of Ukraine where fighting is currently taking place.
“The Russian side is not holding to the ceasefire and has continued firing on Mariupol itself and its surrounding area,” Ukrainian presidential aide Kyrylo Tymoshenko claimed. On the other hand, Ria News cited Russia’s Defense Ministry as saying that “Ukrainian nationalists” aren’t allowing civilians to leave the cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha.
The ceasefire was expected to last for five hours and end in the afternoon, however it was postponed after reported shelling.
