Russia, US to extend START on Moscow’s terms – Ryabkov
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov (pictured) said on Wednesday that Russia and the United States decided to extend the New START nuclear arms control treaty on Moscow’s terms.
“Basically, the treaty will be extended by five years without preconditions. We expect to use this time for launching in-depth talks with the US on the future of arms control with the goal of developing a new security equation, which would cover all factors in preserving international security and strategic stability,” Ryabkov noted.
Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted a bill earlier to extend the New START treaty by five more years to the country’s parliamentary committee in charge of the matter.
