Russian soldiers return to base as drills near Ukraine end
Over 10,000 Russian soldiers returned to bases on Saturday after completing month-long military drills near Ukraine, according to a report published by Interfax News.
“A stage of combat coordination of divisions, combat crews, squads at motorized units… has been completed. More than 10,000 military servicemen… will march to their permanent deployment from the territory of the combined arms’ area of drills,” the paper cited the army.
The drills, under which up to 90,000 Russian troops were moved to the country’s western border, renewed concerns at NATO and the European Union about Russia’s possible plans to attack Ukraine. However, Moscow denied any considerations on the matter.
