S. Korea pushes imports of remdesivir as COVID-19 treatment
South Korea will push imports of the Gilead’s experimental antiviral drug remdesivir as an emergency treatment for patients infected with the coronavirus, the health authorities said Friday.
Jeong Eun-kyeong, chief of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), stated the central clinical review board agreed on the need to introduce remdesivir given that there is no other antiviral drug to treat COVID-19.
Trials in the United States have shown remdesivir can make the recovery period in some coronavirus patients shorter and also reduce the fatality rate.
