S. Korea to appoint Suh Wook as defense minister
South Korean President Moon Jae-in nominated Army Chief of Staff Gen. Suh Wook (pictured left) as the country’s new defense minister, designating him to be Jeong Kyeong-doo’s successor, the president’s office (Cheong Wa Dae) unveiled on Friday.
The appointment is expected to be confirmed by the National Assembly after confirmation hearings.
Suh Wook has been serving as the South Korean Army’s chief of staff since April 2019. Previously, he spent three years with the South Korea-US Combined Forces Command, serving from 2011 to 2014.
