Schumer: Trump guilty in court of public opinion
Former United States President Donald Trump will be “convicted in the court of public opinion” even though he was acquitted by the Senate on Saturday on charges related to the January 6 riots in Washington DC, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said following the vote.
Calling Trump “undoubtedly our worst” president, he added that Trump should face scrutiny from US voters if he ever runs for office again. He stated justice was not done in the trial.
Schumer stressed that he hopes and prays Trump will encounter “unambiguous rejection of the American people” if he runs for public office again. Trump’s acquittal means the Senate has no means of banning him from running for office in the future.
