Senate finds Trump not guilty in impeachment trial
The United States Senate acquitted former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial on Saturday. A total of 43 senators voted “not guilty” while 57 voted “guilty.” The result means seven Republicans dissented from party lines.
The Democrats didn’t manage to get a two-thirds majority in the upper chamber of Congress and convict the former president of “incitement of insurrection.”
Trump was the first president in the history of the US to be impeached twice. He was also the first to have an impeachment trial after leaving office.
