Senators urge Biden to include social aid in recovery plan
Twenty-one Democratic Senators led by Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden wrote a letter to the United States President Joe Biden urging him to include recurring direct payments and enhanced jobless benefits as part of his recovery plan.
“This crisis is far from over, and families deserve certainty that they can put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads. Families should not be at the mercy of constantly-shifting legislative timelines and ad hoc solutions,” the letter read.
The lawmakers proposed the unemployment supplement to last through September 6 as they worry that people will end in poverty without aid before the end of the pandemic. The president is scheduled to reveal his economic recovery package and the infrastructure bill on Wednesday.
