Sunak under pressure to present budget in October – report
Some members of the British government are pressuring Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak to present the country’s next budget on October 27, The Times reported on Saturday.
According to sources familiar with the matter, those members worry that pushing the budget would allow Prime Minister Boris Johnson to make “a series of unfunded spending pledges” head of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), which will take place in November.
This report follows the one that Sunak is planning to delay the budget announcement until the spring of 2022 to give the government the time to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
