Taliban block access to Kabul airport – report
The Taliban have blocked access to the airport in Kabul that is being used for the evacuation from Afghanistan in an effort to prevent Afghans from fleeing the country, Al Arabiya reported on Friday.
According to the report, the blockade and increased patrol have been put into place as a measure to ensure that those citizens that worked with the United States and its allies don’t leave the country. Moreover, reports also seem to indicate that checkpoints have been set up in all major cities and that the Taliban is ramping up its search for anyone that helped the former regime.
Previously, the US asserted that it made a deal with the Taliban to ensure the safe passage of all civilians to the airport for evacuation. The White House also warned the group that it might face the US military if such promises aren’t kept.
