The Power of the Dog leads Oscar nods with 12
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced on Tuesday the nominations for the 2022 edition of its awards, popularly referred to as the Oscars, with The Power of the Dog, directed by Jane Campion and distributed by Netflix Inc., receiving most nominations, 12.
The nominees for Best Pictures are Belfast, Apple TV+’s CODA, Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog, and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. The makers of Belfast, Drive My Car, Licorice Pizza, The Power of the Dog, and West Side Story – Kenneth Branagh, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Paul Thomas Anderson, Campion, and Spielberg, respectively – will be contesting for the Best Director token.
Competing for Best Actor are Javier Bardem for Being the Ricardos, Benedict Cumberbatch for The Power of the Dog, Andrew Garfield for Tick, Tick… Boom!, Will Smith for King Richard, and Denzel Washington for The Tragedy of Macbeth. In consideration for Best Actress are Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Olivia Colman for The Lost Daughter, Penelope Cruz for Parallel Mothers, Nicole Kidman for Being the Ricardos, and Kristen Stewart for Spencer.
