Tokyo Olympics to allow 10,000 fans per venue
The Tokyo Olympics will allow up to 10,000 local spectators to view the games from each Olympics venue or 50% of capacity, the organizers and the International Olympic Committee announced on Monday.
The decision was made despite the chairman of the Japanese government’s pandemic advisory panel, Dr. Shigeru Omi, advising against having fans during the games in order to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.
Earlier, however, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said that the Summer Olympics might be held without any spectators in the event Tokyo introduces a state of emergency over rising infection rates next month.
