Tokyo’s consumer deflation expands to 1.3% in December
Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Ku-area of Tokyo decreased in line with expectations in December, shrinking by 1.3% over the year to stand at 100.9, the Statistics Bureau of Japan’s preliminary report showed.
The headline figure fell by 0.6% compared to the previous month, when the CPI calculated for the nation’s capital marked a 0.7% contraction year-on-year. Meanwhile, the index for all goods declined by 1.9% from December last year with the prices of services going 0.7% down.
The CPI excluding fresh food and energy lost 0.4% on a yearly basis but remained unchanged month-on-month, while the index excluding only fresh food decreased by 0.9% compared to last year’s data and 0.1% compared to the figure seen in November.
