Trump critic Kinzinger drops out of 2022 House race
United States Representative from Illinois, Republican Adam Kinzinger (pictured), announced on Friday that he will not seek reelection in 2022.
Earlier in the day, the Democrat-controlled Illinois General Assembly approved a congressional redistricting plan that would have put Kinzinger and his fellow Republican US Representative Darin LaHood in the same district and in a primary election for the same US House seat in 2022.
Kinzinger, known for criticism of former US President Donald Trump, is one of only two House Republicans to serve on the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, and was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after the protests. Anthony Gonzalez from Ohio, another GOP representative who voted to impeach the ex-president, also announced last month that he would not seek another term in 2022.
