UK approves antibody COVID treatment
The United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced on Friday that it has approved the use of the monoclonal antibody treatment for COVID-19 developed by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG.
According to the regulator, the drug will be used for either prevention or treatment of coronavirus. Moreover, it can be administered either through injection or infusion, and the watchdog stated that it also reduces the likelihood of being admitted to the hospital due to COVID.
UK Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid commented on the news: “This treatment will be a significant addition to our armory to tackle COVID-19 – in addition to our world-renowned vaccination program and life-saving therapeutics dexamethasone and tocilizumab.”
