UK, EU agree on they need to reach Brexit deal
The European Union and the United Kingdom agreed on Saturday that it is important for them to reach a Brexit deal and develop a strong strategic relationship for the future, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a joint statement.
They added that there are “significant gaps” in their positions, especially on fisheries, the level playing field and governance. However, they endorsed their negotiators to continue talks and find solutions.
Earlier, reports said that Johnson would ask for “tunnel talks” with the EU when speaking to Von der Leyen and assume direct control of the negotiations.
