UK expects China to respect HK’s autonomy – No. 10
A spokesman of the United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated on Friday the country expects China to respect Hong Kong’s rights and freedoms.
The spokesman reiterated the UK is committed to Hong Kong’s autonomy, adding the island country is closely monitoring developments in China’s special administrative region.
This statement comes shortly after China’s Premier Li Keqiang claimed the “one country, two systems” principle should be applied to Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam pointed out the announced national security law won’t affect the region’s judicial independence.
