UK may face ‘hundreds of thousands’ of COVID cases per day – report
The United Kingdom may be facing “hundreds of thousands” of new coronavirus cases per day according to UK media who cited government advisors on the pandemic.
The report indicates that due to this a significant number of people may need to be hospitalized over the upcoming weeks, even if variant transmissions are stopped. Moreover, a government advisory committee projected that the number of hospitalizations may increase to between 1,000 and 2,000 by the end of the year, and is going to hit a peak sometime in January with over 3,000 admissions per day.
Lastly, reports also indicate that Whitehall may introduce new tougher measures after December 26 to stem off the surge of coronavirus cases. However, the contingency plans have not yet been presented to ministers for approval and are still being mapped out, with a government spokesperson saying that it is going to “continue to look closely at all data and keep our measures under review.”
