UK reports 22,868 new cases, highest since January
United Kingdom health authorities reported on Monday 22,868 positive COVID-19 tests in the last 24 hours, the highest figure since the end of January 2021. The total amount of cases since the beginning of the pandemic amounted to 4,732,434 cases.
The death rate has increased by 64.9% in the last week bringing the total number of coronavirus-caused fatalities to 128,100. Meanwhile, on the vaccination front, 84.4% of the population have already received at least the first dose of the shot, and 61.9% of Britons are fully vaccinated.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson shared that it is “very likely” that the lockdown measures will be taken down on July 19 as planned, after postponing the initial “Freedom Day” from June 21.
