UK reports 30,597 new COVID cases, 201 deaths
There have been 30,597 confirmed new cases of the COVID-19 virus in the UK on Wednesday, with 201 recorded deaths – the highest total the country has reported since March of 2021.
The country has also seen an increase in the number of patients hospitalized due to COVID-related health problems, as well as a decrease in the number of tests conducted compared to the monthly average.
The UK has seen nearly 7.3 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 134,000 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for the virus, government figures show. Currently, 89% of people aged 16 and over in the UK have had their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine and 81% have had their second.
