UK retail sales up 2.1% in February
The quantity of goods bought in retail sales in the United Kingdom in February increased 2.1% compared to the previous month, the Office for National Statistics reported on Friday. The figure was in line with analysts’ expectations.
The largest positive contribution came from non-food stores as department stores and household goods sales soared by 16.2% and 16.1%, respectively. Retail sales were still down 3.7% from February 2020, before the coronavirus pandemic started.
Online sales grew 4.6% month on month and skyrocketed 77.6% year on year. Online sales as a proportion of all sales stood at a record 36.1%.
