UK takes intel property theft ‘extremely seriously’
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesperson commented on Monday on the claims Russia obtained the data from AstraZeneca PLC and Oxford University to develop its own vaccine against COVID-19 by saying that the United Kingdom takes “such accusations of intellectual property theft and cyberattacks extremely seriously.”
“But as you would expect, I’m not going to comment on matters on the intelligence front,” the spokesperson concluded.
Earlier in the day, British newspaper The Sun claimed in an article a Russian spy stole AstraZeneca and Oxford’s formula and forwarded it to the Gamaleya Institute, which later developed its treatment Sputnik V. The Kremlin rejected the allegations. British Security Minister Damian Hinds later failed to give specific comments on the case.
