UK trade surplus falls to £4.2B in September
The trade surplus of the United Kingdom in the three months to September fell £3.4 billion to stand at £4.2 billion, official data from the Office for National Statistics showed on Thursday. Excluding non-monetary gold and other precious metals, the balance fell in September by £3.6 billion to a deficit of £0.6 billion.
UK’s exports grew by £15.1 billion during the third quarter, while imports increased by £15.9 billion.
The trade-in services surplus narrowed by £1.0 billion to £29.1 billion in the third quarter. Services exports decreased by £0.3 billion, while services imports rose by £0.7 billion. The decrease in the UK total trade surplus was driven by an increase in the trade in goods deficit, The underlying trade in goods deficit widened by £2.4 billion to £24.9 billion in the third quarter.
