UN remains ‘sound investment’ for global community – offical
United Nations envoy to China Siddharth Chatterjee stated on Saturday that despite criticisms the organization still remains “a sound investment” for the international community when it comes to solving issues.
Speaking to the South China Morning Post, Chatterjee noted that the UN is at an “inflection point” and that it needs to adapt to the current world order, saying that “it can either be dynamic or become a dinosaur.” He also added that the organization has been justly criticized “for being slow, inefficient, and ineffective in reacting to situations where countries require urgent or timely support.”
However, Chatterjee remained convinced of the positive impact the UN had stating that its power came from “making a case for international cooperation,” particularly when it comes to the deteriorating relations between the United States and China.
