US adds 58,611 daily virus cases, 1,564 fatalities
The number of infections from COVID-19 registered daily in the United States landed at 58,611 on Thursday, the John Hopkins University’s compiled data revealed. The tally of cases recorded since the beginning of the pandemic in the country thus exceeded 29.15 million.
The death toll from the consequences of coronavirus rose by 1,564 in the previous 24 hours to reach 529,263. In the meantime, it was reported the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) determined the general death rate in the country increased by 15% in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Meanwhile, White House Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci forecast the US would achieve herd immunity “by the end of the summer or early fall,” while Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced Johnson & Johnson would distribute 100 million doses of its vaccine in the second half of the year.
