US announces new Venezuela sanctions
The United States issued new sanctions on Friday on a Venezuelan company and two individuals for allegedly financing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s election efforts, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said.
Calling the Maduro government “illegitimate” Pompeo added the companies helped him in what the US sees as “illegitimate elections” on December 6.
Earlier, the Treasury Department announced the sanctions on Ex-Cle Soluciones Biometricas C.A., a biometrics company that worked on electoral hardware and software in Venezuela. The US also designated company executives Guillermo Carlos San AgustinMarcos Javier Machado Requena as parties helping Maduro.
