US durable goods orders up 1.8% in August
New orders for manufactured durable goods in the United States increased 1.8% when compared to the previous month, according to a report published by the US Census Bureau on Monday. The better-than-expected August figure rose $4.6 billion in August to $263.5 billion.
Transportation equipment led the increase, rising 5.5% to $80.8 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders gained 0.2% compared to July. Excluding defense, the figure was up by 2.4% month-on-month.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods dropped 1.2 billion or 0.5% to 256.1 billion. Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods were 1% or $11.8 billion higher than the previous month’s to land at $1.24 trillion. Inventories increased 0.8%, or $3.4 billion to $457.9 billion.
