US job openings at 6.9 million in January
Job openings in the United States were roughly unchanged in January, landing at 6.9 million, topping analysts’ expectations, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Thursday. The job opening rate was at 4.6%.
According to the data, the number of hires was also stable at 5.3 million. Arts, entertainment, and recreation saw the biggest increase in employment, followed by educational services.
Total separations fell by 275,000 to 5.3 million, with the separations rate remaining flat at 3.7%. The quits rate stood at 2.3%, little changed compared to the prior month, same as the layoffs and discharges rate, which stood at 1.2%.
