US opens higher amid earnings-fueled optimism
Shares on the major stock market indexes traded higher as the session started on Friday, extending the weekly gains after the Monday selloff.
The sentiment was seemingly lifted by strong performances recorded by the technology stocks in the year’s second quarter. Earlier today, American Express and oilfield services giant Schlumberger both reported yearly increases in revenues during the second trimester.
The Dow Jones was up by 0.44% or 152 points as the session started with Amerian Express soaring 3.43% a minute later. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.35% at the open, led by Moderna Inc, whose shares rose 3.11% a minute into the session after its COVID-19 vaccine was approved for those aged 12-17 in Europe. At the same time, the S&P 500 advanced 0.48% as Robert Half International surged 8.69% at 9:33 am ET. The euro was flat versus the dollar at 9:28 am ET, selling for 1.17680.
