US sanctions intl network over funding Yemeni Houthis
The United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed on Thursday sanctions on an international network that allegedly funds Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force, as well as Houthis in Yemen.
The group, lead by “Iran-based Houthi financier Sa’id al-Jamal,” directs “tens of millions of dollars” to Yemeni Houthis, the US Treasury’s statement read, adding that the network accumulates its assets through “sale of commodities, like Iranian petroleum.”
Commenting on Washington’s decision, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that “Houthis to accept a ceasefire, and stressed that the US will continue to “apply pressure” to the Houthis in order to get them to “resume political talks.”
