US senators unveil COVID relief proposal in two parts
A bipartisan group of United States senators revealed the details of a proposal aimed at providing relief during the coronavirus crisis. The bill is divided into two parts, a $748 billion package expected to be more easily adopted, and a $160 billion package with more controversial items.
The bigger part of the proposal includes an extension and increase of unemployment assistance, aid for small businesses, food, rent and student loan assistance, as well as provisions for COVID-19 testing, tracing and vaccine distribution, among other items. The second part includes aid to states and local governments, a provision Democrats insisted on, as well as liability protections for companies, demanded by Republicans.
