US stocks rise ahead of last 2020 session’s end
Major stock market indices in the United States moved to the positive territory on Thursday after having spent the largest part of the year’s final session below the flatline.
The traders monitored the turmoil between the country’s two largest political fractions as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said no to a standalone vote on disputed stimulus checks, even after upper chamber’s Minority Leader Chuck Schumer offered separate votes on other points of divergence between the Democrats and the Republicans, most notably the “230 section” of the Defense bill and the alleged election irregularities.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.31% or 92 points at 2:51 pm ET, while the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.06% at the same time. The S&P 500 concurrently advanced by 0.29%. The euro plunged 0.64% versus the dollar, selling for 1.22126 at 2:53 pm ET.
