US to ban travel from India on May 4 – report
The United States will restrict travel from India starting May 4, due to the COVID-19 surge that the Asian country is in the middle of, NBC reported on Friday, citing a White House official.
Apart from a sharp rise and record-setting figures in daily COVID infections, another reason for the ban is Washington’s intent to stop the spread of the new coronavirus variant that originated in India, the outlet explained.
Nine countries have, so far, disallowed entry from India for non-citizens, while others, including France, have opted for strict quarantine rules upon arrival from the Asian country. Shortly after the release, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed the report.
