US undercounted civilian deaths in Middle East – report
Newly released documents from the Pentagon show that the United States army “drastically undercounted” the number of civilian deaths that occurred due to the country’s airstrikes in the Middle East.
According to a New York Times report, the airstrikes were based on “deeply flawed intelligence,” resulting in civilian deaths that ranged in the thousands, several hundred more than was originally repeated by the Pentagon.
Lastly, the report indicates that there were no disciplinary actions when civilian deaths did occur, nor were there any investigations conducted that found any wrongdoing, thus throwing into doubt Pentagon’s pledge towards being more transparent and accountable.
