Vaccines helped UK get number of infections down – minister
United Kingdom Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi asserted on Monday that the vaccination against COVID-19 has had positive effects in terms of reducing the number of infections in the country.
In an interview with Sky News, he warned that, while there is room for optimism due to the fact that the “vaccine rollout is going according to plan,” the other parameters, including the rate of infection and the number of hospitalizations, need to be given due attention in order to be able to relax the containment measures and “reopen the economy.”
Later in the day, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to deliver details on the way in which the UK government intends to exit the lockdown regime introduced in late 2020 to get the virus spread under control.
