Wall Street opens flat ahead of New Year’s Eve
The United States stock markets started the last trading session of the year unchanged as the country reached another daily record in coronavirus deaths. The Trump administration increased tariffs on some products coming from the European Union in another escalation of the trade dispute. On data, the Labor Department reported initial jobless claims declined to a one-month low of 787,000.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 all opened flat. Chevron Corp. fell 0.46% on the Dow. On the tech-heavy Nasdaq, Micron Technology Inc. was the best performer, gaining 1.27%. Ventas Inc. dropped 1.89% on the S&P.
The euro slipped 0.10% against the dollar at 9:29 am CET to change hands for $1.22792.
