Wall Street opens lower despite positive data, earnings
Major stock markets on Wall Street opened the trading session lower on Friday, as strong oil company earnings and data reports were published before the bell rang. Chevron and Exxon Mobil reported a return to profit, the first time in a year, with the latter beating market expectations. Meanwhile, the United States Commerce Department reported that personal spending rose 4.2% for the previous month.
The Dow Jones was down 0.44% at the opening bell, with Dow Inc dropping 1.51% at 9:33 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 opened 0.79% in the red, with Skyworks Solutions declining 7.47% at 9:32 am ET. The S&P 500 declined 0.58%, as Twitter Inc plummeted 13.47% at 9:34 am ET.
The euro declined 0.33% against the dollar trading for $1.20809 at 9:33 am ET.
