Wall Street opens mostly higher after unemployment data

United States major stock markets opened mostly higher on Friday following the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ nonfarm payrolls report which unveiled that nonfarm employment in the country increased by 266,000, below analyst expectations. Meanwhile, Pfizer and BioNTech announced that they have started the process of asking for full approval for their COVID vaccine in the US.

Dow Jones opened 0.11% below the flatline at 9:30 am ET with International Business Machines Corp falling by 1.85%. The S&P 500 gained 0.16% at the same time with Etsy leading the gains at 4.10%. The Nasdaq 100 climbed by 0.56% a minute later, as Peloton Interactive rose by 5.62%. The Dow Jones moved into the green shortly after the open, to reach another record high for the second day in a row. The S&P 500 extended gains shortly after, making its way to a fresh record as well.

The euro gained 0.34% against the dollar to trade for $1.21066 at 9:30 am ET.
