WH confirms Biden, Putin had phone call today
The White House confirmed on Tuesday United States President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin had a phone call earlier in the day on a “number of regional and global issues” such as strategic stability and the extension of the New START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty).
“President Biden also made clear that the US will act firmly in defense of its national interests in response to Russia’s actions, such as cyber intrusions and election interference,” the White House said. It added Biden “emphasized the US’ unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” and “concerns over the sudden Russian military build-up in occupied Crimea and on Ukraine’s borders.”
The White House also noted the president “reaffirmed his goal of building a stable and predictable relationship with Russia consistent with [the] US’ interests” and “proposed a summit meeting in a third country in the coming months.”
