WH: President will find other ways of funding bill
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Friday that President Joe Biden is confident he will find ways not only of funding a reduced reconciliation bill in the short-term, but also coming close to his original ambitious goals over the longer term.
When pressed on how this would be possible, Psaki made reference to “historical programs that have been built on domestically,” such as the “social security program, Affordable Care Act … fundamental mechanisms in society to deliver change and relief to people for decades to come.”
The press secretary also outlined ways in which the current package will be funded, including corporate tax increases and deterrents to offshoring such as the recently announced global tax rate, as well as “closing loopholes for high income Americans … cracking down on tax cheats.”
