WHO investigates Sputnik V data in Russia
The World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Director for Europe Dr. Hans Kluge (pictured) said on Thursday that a WHO team was in Russia to analyze Sputnik V data as part of the vaccine’s certification process by the health agency.
In an interview with Tass, Kluge stated that he is in touch with Russian authorities when it comes to the vaccine’s approval, adding that “there are definitely grounds for optimism” on the vaccine being given the go-ahead. Additionally, he noted that the team that is in Russia will finalize their investigation by June 4, following which a report will be prepared to detail its outcomes, and to give recommendations to the WHO on Sputnik V.
Kluge’s statements are in line with previous sentiments from the United Nations body when it comes to Sputnik’s approval and he noted that it was good news that the European Medicines Agency was also studying the vaccine.
