WHO recommends 3rd dose for over-60s after Sinovac, Sinopharm jab
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended on Monday a third COVID-19 dose for people over 60 who received two shots of China’s Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccines. Additionally, all moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals should get a third dose, no matter what vaccine they initially received.
The WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) explained the third dose is considered part of an “extended primary immunization series” and not a booster. It added the third shot could be a vaccine different than the originally received ones, “based on vaccine supply and access considerations.”
