WHO regrets Trump’s funding suspension
The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday that the agency “regrets the decision” by the United States President Donald Trump to suspend funding for the organization.
Tedros emphasized the importance of WHO in fighting not only coronavirus, but also “polio, measles, malaria, Ebola, HIV” and many other diseases. He also revealed that its response to the COVID-19 pandemic will be reviewed by “WHO’s member states and the independent bodies” as a “part of the usual process” designed by member countries.
“WHO is reviewing the impact on our work of any withdrawal of US funding and will work with our partners to fill any financial gaps we face and to ensure our work continues uninterrupted,” Tedros added.
