WHO warns of ‘upticks’ in COVID-19 infections
The World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Friday that it registered “upticks” in the number of new coronavirus cases.
According to WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris, the crisis will not be over “until there is no virus anywhere in the world.” The statement comes as Europe, China and the United States continue to ease restrictions after passing the virus peak, while infections are still on the rise in countries such as India, Mexico and Brazil. Furthermore, Iran is fearing a second wave as new infections are surging again following a slowdown.
Earlier, WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge warned the continent to brace for a second wave of infections, stressing now is the “time for preparation, not celebration.”
