YouTube announces new feature, bypassing Roku
Google announced on Friday a new feature that allows users to access Youtube TV from within the main YouTube app, a move that works around its failed negotiations with Roku media player company. The feature will appear on the app over the next few days and will also be available to members on Roku, the service, however, will eventually expand to many other streaming devices.
In the official statement, Youtube says it has not reached an agreement with Roku so far, but it is in discussions with other partners over providing YouTube TV streaming for those members, who “face any access issues on Roku”.
Additionally, Youtube is in long-term talks with Roku to ensure that new devices meet Google’s technical requirements to certify a consistent and high-quality Youtube experience.
